juhu 0.6.7

There is a more recent version of juhu, please download that one - 0.8.3

this one took a while to come around and after all, the changes aren't so big. mostly bug fixing and some minor additions to the ui. the big problem with japanese characters that are not utf-8 encoded and break the whole feed is at least partially fixed - you can still not see non-utf characters, but at least the stream will be parsed and juhu will display it (hopefully). so here is what is new
  • better non-utf-8 handling (regarding the problems with japanese)
  • optionally hide channels and already read posts
  • displaying flickr images
  • clickable links in posts
  • ui related issues - tab key for better keyboard navigation, juhu asks before add/remove contacts...
I am really sorry, that so many days passed by before this new version got released. what can I say? nothing but: sometimes a day just has not enough hours. (by the way, if there are any mac devs around willing to help out, you are welcome!) enough words written you should go ahead, have fun and let me know what you think. thank you.

juhu 0.6.7 can be downloaded here (via google 520kb). the complete source code is available at the google code page.

First let me say what a great app! You create a masterpiece!

Since you need something else to do next how about a Windows Mobile client for us Palm Treo 750 users????????

Perfect timing, I was just about to get annoyed by the lack of flickr images.

Though flickr comments should still show the comment itself instead of just the photo.

Seems to be much more crash prone than previous version. At the moment I can't even start it without crashing :-(

All crashes seem to be EXC_BAD_ACCESS / KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE and the backtraces contain +[NSURLConnection(NSURLConnectionInternal) _resourceLoadLoop:] .. I get the feeling it might be related to network latency.

did or does the older version (0.6.5) work for you, I mean without crashes? what lets you think it might be related to network latency issues? I'd really appreciate more input, since up to now, I didn't had such a crash myself. thanks in advance.

0.6.5 works much more reliably. Not completely without crashes but they're very rare.

I'm guessing latency because I don't recall having crashes until I started a lengthy download which is severely affecting all other network connections. I'll check 0.6.7 again once it finishes some time tomorrow.

Continuing in the bug tracker

I can't keep 0.6.7 from crashing while initially loading streams so it's back to 0.6.5 for me. No tine right now to investigate if it might be the same as or related to tko's issue.

I'll do what I can to fix the crashing issues with 0.6.7... but it could take some days, I am not exactly having much spare time...sorry.

I hope you will consider a iPhone version of this app, this would be the perfect app for the iPhone

yeah, porting juhu to the iphone is really something I consider, but as far as I know, the phone will not be open to third party developers from day one - so it could take some time... and another tiny problem: I live in europe and the iphone will most likely not come around til late 2007 :(

I have set the client to read the stream My Contacts. However, I get an error "juhu could not update the stream because the fetched data did not appear to be a proper rss feed or broken in some way. Therefore juhu was not able to parse the feed correctly, sorry". The stream Public One works fine. http://nicomacdonald.jaiku.com/

same problem as nico. I get
Updading jaiku stream failed
when trying to get my contacts stream.
Public stream works fine

I'm also on the list like nico and josepm. Can't get the stream My contacts working because of an invalid RSS feed.

Fredrik Nygren said...

About the RSS problem. Use the API-key (http://api.jaiku.com/) instead of your personal password. That's solved the RSS error.
